Bone Dry

Photo from www.dalbeattie.com/poros2007/P271011.JPG

Dry. Old bone in the desert sand dry. Exhaustion of mind and body and soul...why do these things feel dry?

Why does the spring rise and fall like mercury? How can I feel so parched just hours after resting on a beautiful mountain top?

Because it is like sleep deprivation. One afternoon nap does not make up for weeks, or months, of interrupted sleep.

Because it is like putting on chapstick when you are dehydrated and outside on a hot, windy day. It only helps for a little while because it does not address the problem.

So, muses, friends, philosophers, riddle me this: how do you fill the spring that is constantly being drained dry?
